Local Property Tax Scam

Hayes Residents:  We have been made aware of a scam that has found its way to our area.  One of our residents reported a voicemail that claimed he had unpaid taxes and needed to call a number to resolve the issue immediately.  The call was reported to the local authorities and to our office as well.

Please be aware that no one will ever call you from Charlevoix County or Hayes Township if there are taxes owing.  Every communication will be in writing and you can verify the information by contacting the office that sent the notice to you.  You will NEVER be asked to wire money.  If you receive any suspicious calls, do not give them any personal information.

Thank you to our resident for reporting this incident so we can help protect and educate our community.
